A Board of Directors, consisting of five members, oversees Ho-Chunk, Inc. The membership includes two current members of the Winnebago Tribal Council and three at-large members. The Board of Directors acts independently from the Tribal Council to oversee the long-term goals and strategies of the corporation.
The Tribal Council understands that they need to protect Ho-Chunk, Inc.'s autonomy to ensure its success. The Council defers to the CEO and Board, allowing them to make decisions based upon economic prudence – not on the basis of minimizing political risk. This separation of business from politics frees the Tribal Council to focus on Tribal governance and enables Ho-Chunk, Inc. management to focus on maximizing profitability for the corporation.
