Ho-Chunk Builders is an excavation and site development company which was formed in 2006. Headquartered in Winnebago, Nebraska the company maintains offices in South Sioux City, Nebraska and Bellevue, Nebraska. Originally organized as an electrical contractor, the company was restructured as an excavation and site development company to take advantage of a growing market. The restructuring allowed Ho-Chunk Builders to partner with other Ho-Chunk companies in providing a complete building package of resources for a variety of commercial, institutional and governmental entities.  

The company is a primary partner with HCI Construction (another Ho-Chunk owned company) for which they can provide excavation and site preparation subcontracting services to fulfill contract requirements and customer needs, expanding opportunities for both companies.


Site preparation and excavation subcontractor services are currently being provided by Ho-Chunk Builders for general contractor HCI Construction on several projects, including the $39 million Bison Renewable Energy project in Sioux County, Iowa. Ho-Chunk Builders is providing quality, cost-efficient earthwork and preparation services at the 40-acre building site. The work includes preparation for roads and building pads for five buildings and 13-1 million gallon digester tanks. When complete, the project will be one of the world’s largest methane producing plants.


Ho-Chunk Builders also has special expertise in providing riverbank restoration and erosion control services. Mechanical excavation of material from rivers, waterways and oxbows requires both the correct resources and expertise.
