Ho-Chunk Village named 2023 All-Star by Harvard

Ho-Chunk Village has been selected as a 2023 All-Star by the Harvard Kennedy School Project on Indigenous Governance and Development’s Honoring Nations program among 142 past Honoring Nations awardees.

The award is for master-planned Ho-Chunk Village, which has added 54 single-family homes and 81 apartments and condos. An additional 40 acres are in development. This achievement recognizes the positive impact of community partners working together for the future of Winnebago and tribal member home ownership.

This marks Ho-Chunk, Inc.’s 4th award and the Winnebago Tribe’s 5th for outstanding tribal governance. Since 1999, the Honoring Nations program identifies, celebrates, and shares excellence in American Indian tribal governance. Applications are evaluated on the basis of a program’s effectiveness, significance to sovereignty, cultural relevance, transferability, and sustainability. “Your work and leadership to strengthen tribal sovereignty through the creation of a master- planned community that not only provides critical housing, but also facilitates healthy lifestyles and contributes to a growing economy is exceptional,” said program director Megan Minoka Hill Oneida) in a letter to Lance Morgan, Ho-Chunk, Inc. CEO, and the Winnebago Tribe. Among Ho-Chunk, Inc.’s previously recognized programs are the Winnebago Community Development Fund and the original Ho-Chunk Village. The Tribe’s Whirling Thunder Wellnessprogram has also been honored in the past.
