LINCOLN – The NE Chamber Foundation is pleased to announce that Rachael Johnson has been selected to participate in Leadership Nebraska Class XVI.

Rachael Johnson currently serves as the Director of Government Affairs and Community Engagement for Ho-Chunk, Inc. Prior to joining Ho-Chunk, Inc. Rachael served as the Resident Scholar and Communications Officer for the Harry S. Truman Foundation, a Federal Agency in Washington DC.

In 2015, Rachael was appointed to the Iowa Board of Regents by then Governor Terry E. Branstad, where she served for four years. During her tenure, she played a key role in hiring three new university presidents and a new system executive director. One of Rachael’s greatest contributions during her time as a Regent was creating and spearheading the Regent’s Campus Safety and Security taskforce committee. In addition to serving on the Board of Regents, Rachael also served as a commissioner for the Iowa College Student Aid Commission and the Iowa Commission on Volunteer Service. In April 2017, Rachael was honored with the Truman Scholarship – one of the nation’s most prestigious scholarships – awarded annually by the Harry S. Truman Foundation in support of its mission to select and support the next generation of public service leaders.

A 2018 graduate of the University of Northern Iowa, Rachael graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Elementary and Middle Level Education. She went on to complete her Master’s Degree in Public Affairs from Princeton University in 2022.

In her free time, Rachael enjoys spending time with her fiancée Clayton, shopping for bargains, and testing new recipes in the kitchen.

Leadership Nebraska presented by Medica was founded in 2006 to identify current and emerging leaders throughout the state, enhance their leadership skills and deepen their knowledge of the challenges and opportunities facing Nebraska.

Participants have been selected from across the state and possess varied backgrounds and diverse talents. All candidates have demonstrated an abiding interest in Nebraska and its future.

The seven-month program covers a broad range of key Nebraska issues, including economic development, workforce and education, agriculture and environment, health care, education, government and policy development.

“The Nebraska Chamber is pleased to welcome the new Leadership Nebraska class,” said Bryan Slone, NE Chamber President. “Once again, the class includes incredibly talented professionals from throughout the state who are already making a difference in their organizations and communities. The Leadership Nebraska experience will provide them with a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to learn much more about the entire state and build not only their knowledge but their networks as they continue their professional careers. As I have traveled the state and seen the amazing things that many of our communities are doing to grow our state and attract and retain young people and families, it has confirmed to me that above all else, leadership matters! I can’t wait to see what this class of leaders does going forward, much like all the Leadership Alumni before them.”
