EMPLOYEE SPOTLIGHT: Heather Saltzgiver

1️⃣ How did you fall into this line of work?

I was working in the billing department at a hospital 22 years ago and applied for a benefit assistant position. I climbed up the ladder and have held various roles in the HR field from healthcare, manufacturing, hospitality, and staffing.

2️⃣ What do you enjoy most about the work you do?

I enjoy making a difference. I love interacting with people the most. I also enjoying managing people to help them develop along their career path and to watch them grow within the organization. I love metrics and learning ways to be more effective. I also enjoy networking in the community and helping employees discover ways to support their families by joining our organization.

3️⃣ How many years have you been with the company and what are some ways you have grown personally and/or professionally since you started?

I started this past fall. I am currently soaking up all the knowledge from my Ho-Chunk, Inc. peers and have been able to contribute my experience and knowledge to make our team one of the best. I am so excited to be part of the Talent Acquisition Department.

4️⃣ What has been one of your favorite projects so far, and why?

I am looking forward to all the projects to come within my department. My biggest accomplishment thus far would be building our HR team as we have added many positions specifically in our department for growth. The Talent Acquisition Department plans to get to the high schools, colleges, and in the community more, and I am so excited for this project to take place. I want us to be the employer choice and to really educate our community on the amazing opportunities we have to offer. The culture at Ho-Chunk, Inc. truly is the place you want to work for. We have an amazing leadership team, and I am excited for all that is yet to come.

5️⃣ What do you like to do outside of work?

I enjoy spending time with my husband and children. I enjoy nature and being outdoors. During the summer, I enjoy my wind therapy on our motorcycle, and you will find I am normally attending a poker run to help young children in need. I love crafting, boating, camping, and traveling. Family time is the most important thing to me, and I love paying it forward.

The culture. Culture has always been important to me. Everyone at Ho-Chunk is incredible to work with. They have a very strong leadership team that truly cares about you as a person. 7️⃣ Do you have anything you’re looking forward to or have you done anything fun or interesting lately?

I enjoyed spending time with family during the holidays. Each year my family hosts a cookie exchange. We all bake a goodie and then once everyone is done baking, laughing, and telling stories we all enjoy an assortment tray of wonderful sweets to snack on and share with others.
