Rose has been employed with Ho-Chunk, Inc. for almost a year. She is a Compliance Coordinator on the Compliance team.

➡️ What does your work as a Compliance Coordinator entail?

I assist Ho-Chunk Trading Group with regulatory compliance and support other Ho-Chunk, Inc. subsidiaries with compliance needs.

➡️ Why do you feel working for a Native-owned company is important?

As a Native American woman, I feel empowered and welcomed working for a Native-owned company. I feel that Ho-Chunk, Inc. is a great representation of Native American success. I am proud to work for a company that gives back to the Winnebago Tribe in the way that Ho-Chunk, Inc. does.

➡️ What do you enjoy most about the work you do?

I enjoy working with tobacco licensing and seeing my work come to fruition. This job is satisfying because it allows me to work at my own pace while assisting with a variety of tasks. The work we do in our department helps support every subsidiary within Ho-Chunk, Inc. and I love coming into work knowing that!

➡️ How has Ho-Chunk, Inc. helped you grow?

I was a teacher for 7 years before joining Ho-Chunk, Inc. I have found similarities and differences between the two careers. Professionally, Ho-Chunk, Inc. has helped me realize other career interests and passions I had aside from teaching. I had a fear leaving the teaching profession that I would be put into a box as only being able to work in education. Joining Ho-Chunk, Inc. has taught me that I am capable of more. I have found a lot of what I did my past career has helped me with my current position.

Personally, Ho-Chunk, Inc. has made me feel appreciated. With today’s climate around teaching, it is hard to feel that the work you are doing is being recognized. Here at Ho-Chunk, Inc., I have felt seen, heard, and understood as well as appreciated!

➡️ What do you like to do outside of work?

Outside of work, I enjoy spending time with family and friends. I am bettering myself in many ways. I’m reconnecting to my Native culture and learning as much as possible. I enjoy creating beadwork, playing video games, and exploring nature!

➡️ What is something about you that might surprise people?

I am fluent in Spanish as well as American Sign Language. Originally, I went to school to be either an educator for Deaf students or to work in a dual language program.

➡️ Anything fun on the horizon?

I am looking forward to a vacation with friends in the near future!
